Budget deficit is not a big issue – Min. S.B. Dissanayake

Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake says that getting rid of the budget deficit is a simple task

The Minister points out that Sri Lanka has foreign currency reserves amounting to 9.2 billion US Dollars while the current budget deficit is only 4 billion US Dollars. He notes that using these reserves the government could take steps at any time to get rid of the budget deficit without obtaining loans from anyone .

Minister S.B. Dissanayake goes onto state that this budget was presented at a time when the government has money, when the banking sector is stable and at a time when the country has strong foreign currency reserves.
