A fifty-three-year old woman living in Balangoda was ‘brutally assaulted’ according to the police, on Tuesday when two individuals chopped off her leg and ran away with it. (Read: Balangoda man steals woman’s leg; victim hospitalised)
After police carried out initial investigations in this regard, the two suspects in connection to the incident were apprehended in the Balangoda area, and were identified as the victim’s brother and his 19-year-old son. When News1st contacted the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office to know the latest on this story, we were told that the reason behind this attack was a land dispute.
Police stated that the victim is an unmarried woman who had been living by herself, and that the suspects had attacked her in what the police call ‘an attempted murder’, due to her ownership of land.
Police further stated that after being produced before the magistrate, the suspects were remanded until November 18.
