The National Building Research Organisation has suspended their employees’ leave for the weekend.
Senior Geologist at the Landslide Unit of the NBRO, Dr. Gamini Jayatissa stated that several other areas in the country have come under the threat of landslides owing to the prevailing weather conditions.
Dr. Jayatissa added that the leave of employees at district offices as well as the head office have been cancelled to conduct necessary investigations and provide the required services to the people.He went on to note that several teams have dispatched to areas where landslides warnings have been issued to conduct investigations.
Dr. Jayatissa added that there still remains the threat of landslides regardless of the deteriorating rainy weather. He also advised the general public to adhere to instructions given by the National building Research Organisation, at all times.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre says that landslide warnings issued for several districts owing to the heavy showers are still in effect.
Assistant Director Pradeep Kodippilli stated that warnings have been issued for the districts of Kegalle, Rathnapura, Kandy, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya and Kalutara.
