President Mahinda Rajapaka has directed the authorities to take immediate action following the landslide in Koslanda. According to the army, 500 personnel have been deployed for rescue operations in the area.
Police say that the landslide in Koslanda which occurred on Wednesday morning, is the biggest disaster that has taken place in recent times.
According to the Badulla Government Agent, nearly 300 persons are missing while eight bodies have been discovered from the rubble so far. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Army has warned that public gathering in the affected area are at risk, due to the continued threat of landslides.
