Police say that the Koslanda landslide which occurred on Wednesday morning, is the biggest disaster that has taken place in recent times.
According to the Badulla Government Agent, nearly 300 persons are missing while eight bodies have been discovered from the rubble so far. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Army says has warned, that public gathering in the affected area is risky, due to the continued threat of landslides.
Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya earlier said that the armed forces were deployed to assist rescue operations and that two helicopters were dispatched to the location.
