The debate on the second reading of the budget took place on Saturday.

Here are some of the views expressed at the debate.

Ravi Karunanayake:
The Budget Deficit is 1,466 million rupees. You say that the salary of the state sector employee will be increased by 15,000 rupees. This 2200 plus the 723 totals to 2923.
Minister of Finance, Sarath Amunugama:
Some of the words that you used are the same terms that were used by the Trade Unions.
JVP Politburo Member, MP Sunil Handunnetti:
What the people feel is that, we are not here for the budget debate but for the debate on commissions. A pre-school teacher is to be given 2500 rupees. Now, minister please tell me, is this for all pre-schools or only for state pre-schools?
