Kochi airport (Cochin) in Kerala is on high-alert after an anonymous letter warned of a possible terror attack.
Officials said they believe the letter is a hoax, but more detailed security checks are being conducted as a precaution.
Kochi Airport officials told the Press Trust of India that information was received of a threat to the Air India flight on the Mumbai-Kochi sector on October 25 and Ahmedabad-Mumbai sector tonight.
“There was a threat of bomb attack or bomb suicide attack,” Kochi Airport Director said.
The Director of Airports Authority of India, Kolkata, had received an anonymous letter last night stating that Air India flights on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai and Mumbai-Kochi sector will be ‘sabotaged’, airport sources said.
A bomb disposal squad is on stand-by at the airport, along with Anti-Hijacking Unit.
