A group of Pakistan nationals who have sought asylum in the country and were detained in the Wellaweediya Temple in Negombo have been attacked.

Police said that the nine Pakistani nationals who sustained injuries have been admitted to the Negombo Hospital.

The police added that the intruders who entered the temple premises had inflicted damages to several objects that were placed in the temple.

The clash was as a result of an altercation that broke out when a Pakistani asylum seeker had got himself into a brawl with the unidentified group in question, while having a sea bath.
