The Western Provincial Council session on Tuesday, was adjourned, following a tense situation.

The opposition of the Council brought forth a proposal over the foreign service, and a debate was held accordingly. However, when Provincial Minister Upali Kodikara was making a statement, ruling party members had left the council chamber.

Our correspondent added that the chair attempted to adjourn the session due to the lack of quorum. Expressing their protest against this, members of the opposition prevented the chair from leaving the chamber, and attempted to take away the mace of the council.

However, the chair had left the chamber with the mace, following which the opposition members continued with the sitting.
