Sri Lankan fishermen arrested in Bangladesh

Twenty four (24) Sri Lankan fishermen who violated the Bangladesh maritime boundary were arrested by the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

The arrested fishermen are said to have entered the Bangladesh maritime border subsequent to being affected by the cyclone that was prevalent in the sea areas off Myanmar

The Ministry of Fisheries noted that four Sri Lankan fishing boats had also been taken into custody by the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

An official at the Ministry stated that legal measures will be taken against the arrested fishermen. Meanwhile, we at News1st were able to record radio messages exchanged between Sri Lankan fishermen along the coast of Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
