An individual has allegedly been assaulted by the police in Kottawa while returning home from hospital with his wife and child.

The victim was assaulted on the morning of October 13 while returning with his family from a private hospital in Homagama.

The victim elaborated thus:
They stopped the three-wheeler and asked for my licence and insurance. I said that this three-wheeler was brought in for repairs and I am not sure if it has those documents, because I left the house in a hurry to get medicine. I stopped after they yelled at me. They did not even allow me to put my ID back into my pocket. They told me to come to the police station. I asked them to speak properly. Then because this three-wheeler needs to be push-started, I asked people around for help. When I did so, an STF officer came from nowhere and hit me. I don’t know what happened but I just lost consciousness.
Although a complaint was lodged with the Kottawa Police, the complaint was not recorded.

The victim of the assault said that the three-wheeler still remains under police custody at the Kottawa Police, and that the police have asked him to drop the charges if he wants his three-wheeler back.

When News1st made inquiries, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that a disciplinary inquiry will be conducted against the police officers.
