TNA Northern Provincial Councillor, M.K. Sivajilingam remarked on Tuesday on statements made on Monday by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

Ranil Wickremesinghe’s statement:
The 13th Amendment to the constitution devolves power in this country and we have no need of going beyond it by even a letter. But, we need to talk with the relevant political parties on how to implement it. The problems faced by the people of the North are very different to the problems of the people in Sabaragamuwa. So we need to talk about it and look at the relevant laws. We need to treat everyone equally. The law in the South should be the same for the North and the law in the North should be the same for the South. We cannot have separate laws. The entire country should have a single policy when it comes to defence matters, the police, law and order and the public service.
TNA Councilor of the Northern PC, M.K. Sivajilingam:

“Ranil Wickremesinghe said recently that the solution to the national problem is the 13th Amendment and there is no need for a plus. In the run up to the 2005 Presidential election, he promised that he was prepared to seek a resolution to this problem under a federal system. When he says now that he is prepared for the 13th Amendment and nothing further, how can he resolve the national problem? His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa said previously about 13 Plus Plus. It looks like that has become 13 minus minus. We do not know what this gentleman will do either. Thereby, the Tamil National Alliance is prepared to announce that it will only pledge support to a candidate who works towards a permanent solution to the national problem, come the Presidential Election.”
