Train services along several railway lines have been suspended as a result of the strike action launched by a group of railway employees.

Railway Chief Controller D.V. Gunapala said that 22 trains were in operation in Colombo and surrounding areas starting Thursday morning. The Sri Lanka Transport Board has taken steps to provide the public with special bus services to minimise the inconvenience caused by the ongoing railway strike.

Assistant Manager of the board H.G Chandrasiri said that steps have been taken to provide transport to people aiming to travel to and from Colombo via buses located near main railway stations in Colombo and surrounding areas.

He added that 300 buses have been allocated for this purpose.
