Minister Johnston Fernando addressing a function in Kurunegala on Sunday commented on the incident involving Sri Lankan High Commissioner to UK Dr. Chris Nonis.

Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando expressed the following views:
Individuals who haven’t even seen Chris Nonis and have never met him are saying that he has been assaulted. They say he is a talented person and question whether this is democracy ? They are standing up for Chris Nonis so that they can sling mud at the President. They are slinging mud at the President because he invited MP Sajin Vass to attend a meeting with the Pope. If such an incident took place, then they should have filed a complaint with the police in the US because the assault took place there. There have been instances when Chris Nonis represented the country and we congratulated him. They say an incident took place and there was brawl. how many brawls take place, incidents like this took place here as well.
