Matara transport company chairman’s bus and a house attacked

A group of thugs have attacked and caused damage to a bus belonging to the Chairman of the Matara Passenger Transport Company.

Police say that a shooting had also occurred during the attack which took place in Thudawa, Matara, on Saturday night. It is suspected that a group of about ten persons travelling in a three-wheeler and a motorcycle had carried out this attack.

The bus had been parked at a business establishment belonging to the Chairman of the company.

The thugs had also attacked a guard at the business establishment, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital. The group had attacked  the bus and a house.

Chairman of Matara Passenger Transport Company Ltd, Aruna Halpage revealed following details:

“ They had called one of my aides on his mobile phone and noted that if we interfered in the procedure of the National Transport Commission, then the owner would be killed. When my aides phone is turned on, I can monitor it on my phone. Anyone who wishes can listen to the recording of that voice.”

When News 1st made inquiries, the police noted that investigations are underway into the incident.
