Thundershowers will develop at several places in Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva Provinces during Sunday afternoon and will later spread to Western and North Western coastal areas.
There may be temporary localised fairly strong winds during thundershowers.
The Met Department warns the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise the damages caused by lightning activities.
Meanwhile, Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre, Paradeep Kodipilli said that an increase can be seen in the number of lightning related deaths. He further stated that every year nearly 50 people die due to lightning strikes.
Speaking to News1st, Paradeep Kodipilli said that 950 families in the Hiththatiya area in Matara have been affected due to a sudden flood caused by a blocked drainage system due to heavy rain on Friday.
