The Disaster Management Centre says that over 300 houses in Hiththetiya, Matara and surrounding areas have been inundated as a result of heavy rains experienced in the area.

Assistant Director of the DMC, Pradeep Kodipilli said that around 950 families have been affected.

He added that as the water-ways and annicuts in the areas have been blocked, there is no proper outlet for the flood water to recede.
