The Department of Wildlife is taking steps to protect seven species of animals residing in the country.

According to the Director of the Department of Wildlife H.D. Rathnayake, the animals that are to be protected under this project will be elephants, leopards, bears, crocodiles, whales, turtles and storks.

Rathnayake added that these animals attract tourists to the country.

He also noted that steps will be taken to protect the land on which these animals reside in a bid to further protect these species of animals.
