Petrol bombs and stones had been hurled at the residence of a UNP activist in Nawalapitiya during the early hours of Tuesday.

Police said that investigations have been launched into the incident. The attack had taken place at around 01.30 a.m. on Tuesday

Our correspondent based in the area said that a house where a meeting was to be held on Wednesday with the participation of the UNP top brass was thus attacked.

According to our correspondent, the meeting was organised to raise awareness amongst UNP activists. A small fire had been reported soon after the attack, but that was doused thereafter.

Police said that no suspects have been arrested over the incident and investigations are underway.
