President Mahinda Rajapaksa said on Tuesday morning that the UPFA’s victory at the Uva Provincial Council Poll had affirmed that no one could deceive the people as per their will.

The President was speaking at the occasion of the swearing in of the Chief Minister and UPFA councillors elected to the Uva Provincial Council.

Speaking further, the President had noted that the opposition had leveled allegations at every instance in which the government has been victorious. He added that the government’s journey would not be stalled by false statements and vituperative comments.

Shasheendra Rajapaksa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Uva Province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.

The Presidential Media Unit noted that the 19 UPFA councillors elected to the Uva provincial council, all took oaths before the President on Tuesday morning.

The new board of ministers are to be sworn in at a later date.

Shasheendra Rajapaksa who served as the Chief Minister of the Uva Province from 2009 to 2014, received the highest number of preferential votes in the Monaragala District, at the concluded provincial council Poll.

He topped the UPFA list with 96,619 preferential votes.
