A fire broke out in a row of shops in the Mawanella town on Wednesday morning. The Police Media Unit stated that the fire has caused damage to 17 shops and added that five shops out of the 17 have been destroyed completely.

It is learnt that fire engines were deployed from Kandy. A spokesperson added that the fire has now been doused.
