President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is in New York to address the 69th United Nations General Assembly, has met with several heads of state on the sidelines of the UNGA.
The President had met with the Prime Minister of Nepal Sushil Koirala and the President of Colombia Juan Santos at the UN Headquarters in New York. The Presidential Media Unit noted that the President and the Nepalese Prime Minister had focussed on issues of importance to both nations during their meeting.
During the President’s meeting with the Colombian President, attention had been focussed on strengthening Sri Lanka’s relations with South American nations.
The President had also met with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Kamalesh Sharma.
The President also attended the meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, in New York, where the catastrophe that has befallen African elephants was the focus of discussions.
The Presidential Media Unit said the President was invited to the meeting by the former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
