Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena expressed the following views on the Uva PC Elections whilst on an inspection tour in Athuraliya, Matara.

Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena expressed the following views:
Majority of those who voted for the UNP in the last Uva PC polls voted for us in this Uva PC elections. They gave their vote after they lost hope in the UNP. During this period the UNP used a new tactic to gain votes, they let go of a Parliamentarian and instead put him as a candidate for the elections with a large scale campaign. Thereafter, Ranil Wickremesinghe made a public appeal to those who were supporting the UNP to join them once again,in the hope that they will forget about the past and travel together. When that happened some of those who were supporting the UNP earlier and voted for us later, once again voted for the UNP. That is what happened.
Journalist questioned: “Is the president facing problems in running the government?”

Minister, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena replied;
No he is not facing any issue. In a couple of days maybe those who voted for them will join us again because of this election.
