Apple opened its gates for Australians to buy the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and as anticipated, there were huge lines of fanboys waiting to get their hands on the new smartphones. However, the guy who made the debut spot in Perth to become the first to buy the iPhone 6 in that city also became the first to drop it.
9news was on the spot covering the event when Jack Cooksey became the first guy to buy the coveted iPhone 6. He came out of the Hay Street Store, opened the box for the reporters and in his excitement, dropped his iPhone leading to a chorus of boos of disbelief from others who had queued up.
Thankfully, the phone did not suffer any damage. He told PerthNow, “I dropped it in a panic to get it open. Luckily it’s covered in plastic, so it’s fine.”
Cooksey said he’s now looking forward to sitting down and tinkering with his new phone. “I just can’t wait to open it again – and not drop it,” he said.
People queued up overnight outside shops around Australia to get their hands on the new iPhone 6.
