Uva election propaganda activities to end

All propaganda activities pertaining to the Uva Provincial Council Election ends at midnight on Wednesday September 17.

Additional Elections Commissioner, R.M.L Ratnayake said that engaging in propaganda activities after midnight Wednesday will be a punishable offence.

Accordingly, authorities say that all elections decorations, posters, and cut-outs must be removed before midnight Wednesday. Thus, candidates will be not be allowed to engage in any propaganda activity from midnight Wednesday until the end of the elections.

Activities of all political party offices, that have been set in view of the election, must end by the evening of September 18. Thereafter, a candidate could only have one office per district. At these offices can only be started from 19th . At the same time these offices cannot display any propaganda material.

The Additional Elections Commissioner noted that police has been informed on protecting the elections law.

He further stated:

“We have informed the police on all these regulations. Police has deployed a special programme to remove any illegal propaganda material and the remove existing materiel after midnight Wednesday. A special programmke has also been put in place to remove all the election offices. A group from the Elections Secretariat will be assisting the police on this.”
