The Ceylon Electricity Board notes that it will take about two weeks to come up with a process of creating electricity bills to reflect the reduction in prices.
Chairman of the CEB W.B. Ganegala notes that the 25% reduction in electricity tariffs came into effect on Wednesday adding that this relief will be provided to consumers in the coming weeks.
He said:
The treasury issued a gazette notification on the reduction in prices. We will receive a circular based on this through the Public Utilities Commission. Based on this, we will create a new chart for meter readers and how they should charge consumers. The people who receive the electricity bill today will have the same price. This will continue for two weeks. However, we will reduce this amount from your next bill
Thereby , according to the current system, a house which utilises 100 units of electricity will see their electricity tariff being slashed by Rs.507.50.
