UNP Activists say that MP Mangala Samaraweera will not be allowed to dilute or destroy the United National Party. They point out that MP Samaraweera will never realise his dreams within the United National Party.

Former Assistant Secretary of UNP Youth Front, Kalyananda Liyanagunawardane expressed the following views:

“ The man who entered the UNP recently and destroyed the party, is now trying to act as the party’s saviour. I was in Vavuniya for seven and a half years from 1994. I was in Vavuniya for seven and a half years and it is only after the UNP victory in 2001 that I was able to return to the village. That is how they exacted vengeance from us. It was not only me. He exacted a nasty vengeance from UNP activists in the Matara district. We can remember how Mangala Samaraweera, who speaks of the media today, acted when he was the Media Minister. “

He added; “Mangala Samaraweera does not need the media, but we need the media. Mangala Samaraweera does not want the elephant but we want the elephant. Mangala Samaraweera does not want the colour green but we want the colour green. This is a party of the majority. This is not Mangala Samaraweera’s party. Thereby, we will not in any way allow Mangala Samaraweera to destroy this party. What does Mangala want? Mangala does not want to make Ranil Wickremesinghe victorious. Mangala wishes to bring his former Leader, Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike and put her forward as the candidate. We will never allow this to happen. We wish to say to Mangala Samaraweera to please stop destroying this party and go back to where he came from if it is possible for him.”

Some other UNP activists also expressed their views;

“We do not need any —(edited out)———- like Mangala Samaraweera. We know who Mangala Samaraweera is and we do not need him at all.”

“My father has been a UNPer and we have been UNPers for generations since 49. He was a village head and was awarded a medal by the Queen. I  Seneviratne, as a Grama Niladhari and the son of this person who worked for the establishment and strengthening of the UNP, will not allow Mangala Samaraweera or anyone else, to act according to their whim and change this party. I am definitely against it. This is a good national party. It is a party that has served the nation. “
