Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that construction work on 5,000 houses for underprivileged persons in Colombo has been completed.
He made this statement at an event held in Colombo on September 15, when the Orugodawatte Puradhora Sevena Housing Scheme was vested in the public by the Defence Secretary.
“The opposition made various remarks when we started the project. They levelled allegations saying that these people will be sent to Jaffna or Batticaloa and that the lands will be acquired and sold out. Now you must have experienced it firsthand the aim of the Mahinda Chinthanaya — 20,000 houses are being built, 5000 of which have been completed. Around 2,000 people have already settled in these houses.”
Rajapaksa, who inspected the houses, also engaged in a cordial discussion with the public.
