CID officials arrest alleged Negombo robbery suspect in Malaysia

Sampath Ruwansiri AKA Apple Ruwan who was wanted in connection to the jewellery heist in Negombo was arrested in Malaysia and brought back to the country .

In February, the suspect allegedly robbed a jewellery store in Negombo and allegedly stole money and jewellery worth R.15 million and fled to Malaysia.
He was arrested in Malaysia and was brought back to the country on Friday night .

Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana said:

[quote]He was arrested in Malaysia and was brought back to the country by officials of the Criminal Investigations Department last night. He was later handed over to the Western Province North Special Investigations Division. That division is handling the investigation into the case. It was reported that the suspect fled with the money that was stolen, investigations have been launched into this as well .[/quote]
