A former member of the LTTE who was convicted of aiding and abetting the assassination of former North Central Province Opposition Leader Major General Janaka Perera, was sentenced to twenty years rigorous imprisonment on Friday.
The suspect, a former Colonel in the LTTE, Shanmuganathan Sudaharan, was produced before Judge Sunanda Kumara Ratnayake of the North Central Provincial High Court on Friday. After considering all the evidence that had been submitted, the court sentenced Sudaharan to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment.
Shanmuganathan Sudaharan was charged with conspiring to assassinate, and aiding and abetting the assassination of Major General Janaka Perera, between January 1 and October 6, 2008.
