The Met Department forecasts that drought-stricken parts of the country may receive rainfall in about a fortnight.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast for the next twenty four hours is as follows – scattered showers may be experienced on Wednesday evening in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, North Western and Southern Provinces.
Thundershowers accompanied by strong winds may be experienced in the Uva and Eastern Provinces.
The Met Department is forecasting wind seeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour in the sea areas – off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai, and off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
The Met Department warns that these winds may cause sudden swells and rough seas in these areas.
