The National Freedom Front has proposed an across the board, 40 percent wage hike for all public sector employees. NFF Politburo Member, Piyasiri Wijeynayake, made this statement at a media briefing convened in Colombo on Tuesday.
They say that the economy has grown astronomically, so we cannot understand what has happened. There are floating markets and shopping centres in Colombo where it costs 200 rupees for a hopper. There are giants in this country who can pay 200 rupees for a hopper. In a country where there are people who can afford to pay 200 rupees to float and eat a hopper, there are also people in Ridimaliyedda, Badulla who cannot afford a square meal. Vacancies for all skilled positions in the government service especially in institutions like the Ceylon Electricity Board are filled by manpower. Since we are a constituent of this government we are saying this before the harm is caused. We have said before that the National Freedom Front are not a group of people who wait for the damage to happen to speak out.
