The Department of Meteorology predicts that a few showers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts particularly during the morning, while isolated thundershowers are likely in the Uva and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.

While those in cities like Colombo are likely to experience a refreshing torrent of rain, the same cannot be said for the people living in the Polonnaruwa district. The District Secretary of Polonnaruwa says that the number of those affected due to the drought in the district is increasing further.

He said that over 200,000 individuals are affected by the drought at present.

News1st contacted District Secretary of Polonnaruwa Nimal Abeysiri for more details in this regard.
