Indian Police have busted a human trafficking racket transporting Sri Lankans to Australia.

According India’s, The Hindu newspaper, four racketeers including one Sri Lankan were arrested in India’s Andhra Pradesh.

The Hindu newspaper report says that the racketeers had brought si Sri Lankans to Ongole with a promise to send them to Australia in a cargo ship. The report added that the racketeers had obtained a sum of 500,000 Indian rupees from each Sri Lankan.

Quoting the Indian police, the newspaper said that the six Sri Lankans had come to Chennai by air with valid travel documents from Sri Lanka and were staying in Ongole for a week.

They added that the si Sri Lankans are due to be produced before an Executive Magistrate.

The Hindu report also read that the Sri Lankans were promised to be sent to Australia by sea without valid travel documents first by country boats up to 200 nautical miles and then in a cargo ship coming from either Kakinada or Visakhapatnam.
