Suspect in connection to Orugodawatte drug haul arrives

The chief suspect in the recent discoveries of large hauls of Heroin in Orugodawatte and Katugastota, has been arrested.

The Pakistani national suspected of smuggling in the heroin was arrested by the Police Anti Narcotics Bureau.The police say that the suspect had arrived in Sri Lanka from Karachi in Pakistan on Saturday night.

He was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. Police had uncovered information that the suspect had taken up residence in Seeduwa from where he allegedly carried out the drug smuggling racket. Police say the suspect is being interrogated on detention orders.

On July 21, customs officials seized 93 kilogrammes of Heroin which had been concealed in a container at the Customs Container Yard in Orugodawatte while on August14, a haul of 59 kilogrammes of Heroin was seized in Katugastota.
