Ice Bucket Challenge takes a cool trend in Sri Lanka

The Ice Bucket Challenge is latest trend to go viral on Social Media.

Since the Ice Bucket Challenge went viral early August, social media outlets have been crowded with videos of people dumping ice on their heads after delivering a short message for the ALS Association.

The Ice Bucket Challenge is the gift that keeps on giving for the ALS Association in support for research and treatment for the Lou Gehrigs Disease.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was initiated by 27 year old Corey Griffin , to share the pain of his colleague and former Boston College Baseball player Pete Frates who has ALS. The craze has gone viral in Sri Lanka too.

Western Provincial Councillors Hirunika Premachandra and Malsha Kumaratunga also took up the challenge. Sri Lankan Cricket Stars Mahela and Sangakkara took up the challenge. The Challenge works as follows, after a person has been nominated he or she has to bathe in a bucket on ice.

Within twenty four hours of being challenged, participants are to video themselves in continuous footage. First accepting the challenge, which means you donate ten dollars to the cause.

If you do not accept the challenge, you are asked to pay 100 dollars to the cause.

On Thursday alone , the ALS Association had raised ten million US Dollars.
