According to Reuters, a delegation from the Tamil National Alliance or TNA met with India’s Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday, in order to urge New Delhi to ensure devolution of power to provinces in Sri Lanka.
Reuters says the TNA leaders will push their case for full implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. They are also expected to call on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The 13A Amendment came into existence due to the India -Sri Lanka accord signed in 1987 between then Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and then President J. R. Jayewardene.
It stipulates devolution of powers to the provinces, which was at the centre of the ethnic conflict.
