Garbage piles at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital as MC says ‘no obligation to collect it’

The administration of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital points out that many health related issues could arise because waste at the hospital is not being collected by the garbage collectors.

However, Mayor of Galle, Methsiri De Silva, say that the Municipal Council has no obligation to do so.

Administration Officer at the the Karapitya Teaching Hospital S. Somaratna states that garbage is piling up at the hospital for months, adding that the Municipal Council has not been collecting garbage for the past two and a half months.

The officer added that a sum of Rs.1000 is being paid for the collecting of garbage and that they don’t see a reason to stop doing so.
