The death toll from a train accident Monday in the eastern Indian state of Bihar has risen to 20.

The incident took place as a speeding train rammed into an auto rickshaw at a crossing of rail track in the eastern Indian state of Bihar’s West Champaran district, when the auto rickshaw tried to cross the track despite warning by the guard of the coming train.

Some bodies were mutilated beyond recognition while some others were dragged by the train to some distance as the vehicle was tossed several metres away under the impact of the collision.

Train accidents take place frequently at track crossings in India due to lack of security awareness of local people and loose security control.
