Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka has asked telecommunication service providers to register all mobile phone connections by the end of the year.

Director General of TRCSL Anusha Palpita says that all new connections as well as existing connections are expected to be registered. Palpita warned that stern action will be taken against companies that do not adhere to these regulations.

He added that around 70 percent to 80 percent of mobile service connections have been registered in the country at present; 21.6 million mobile service connections are currently active in the country.
