Police look for light at the end of mysterious Ambalangoda tunnel

A mysterious underground tunnel has been discovered in the Weragoda area in Amabalangoda.

Police says that the purpose of this tunnel has not yet been confirmed.

The tunnel has been found dug in a private land situated about 200 kilometres from the Weragoda Maha Temple in the Weragoda village. Police stated that the 40 feet long tunnel was dug up in an abandoned sewer near the private land.

Police said that they had visited the site and carried out investigations, based on a tip-off received on Sunday.

The Galle Archaeological Office, along with police had visited the site and carried out investigations. Police suspect that the tunnel had been dug in the night time. Based on the information of the archaeological officers who inspected the area, the tunnel does not contain treasure or any historical value, police said.

Police also stated that no information has been received of the individuals who had dug the tunnel and no arrests have been made so far in connection to the incident.
