The fire had erupted August 10 morning in the Maalewela Reserve in Weerasekaragama, Wellawaaya in Moneragala. Bringing the blaze under control proved to be a difficult task due to the prevailing dry weather in the area and our correspondent noted that the fire continued to rage on until early evening.
