A special committee has been appointed to conduct an independent investigation in to the alleged sexual molestation of a Sri Lankan domestic worker in Oman.
When News1st contacted Deputy General Manager of the Foreign Employment Bureau Mangala Randeniya, he said:
The domestic worker, identified as Udeni Dhammika, left for employment in Oman in January after registering at the Foreign Employment Bureau. Her husband had lodged a complaint claiming that she had been sexually molested by the owner of the household she was employed at, in April.
Following the complaint, the Ministry of Foreign Employment and Promotion said she was moved to a safe house operated by Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman.
Meanwhile, the committee appointed to investigate in to the case is due to examine reports that she was subjected to an abortion.
