At the cabinet media briefing held on Thursday July 31, views were expressed on the decision taken by the NFF leader  Minister Wimal Weerawansa to contest the Uva Provincial Council election alone.

Cabinet Media Spokesperson, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella expressed these views:
No, this is not the first time, even the Muslim Congress contested separately. Minister Hakeem and Minister Wimal Weerawansa contested separately being in the cabinet. We have discussed this matter over and over again. The alliance can be considered as a special political party. The alliance sits together, stays together they go by their own political stance when needed, but as a group we work together when it comes to public problems of the country
A journalist questioned: “If the parties contest for the Uva elections separately how will the government contest?”

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella replied: “We will rejoin after the election.”
