Tense situation arises at Colombo National Hospital

A tense situation has arisen between two groups of doctors at the Colombo National Hospital. According to the Media Spokesperson, police has been deployed to the area. A group of health workers are currently engaging in a countrywide strike action citing several demands including salary anomalies and the non-payment of salary deficits.

The Co-convenor of the strike, Deepika Wijeysooriya stated that employees attached to 27 health professions are taking part in this strike action.Activities of major hospitals were disrupted owing to the strike action.

Director of the Kandy General Hospital, Saman Ratnayake stated that activities of the hospitals OPD as well as clinical services at the hospitals were affected as a result of the protest .

The Director of the Matara General Hospital stated that out of the 350 employees who were to report to work on Wednesday July 30; two hundred and forty nine ( 249) have engaged in this strike action.
