An inmate of the Mahara Prison who had escaped the facility has been arrested while trying to evade authorities in the Mahara area He was arrested following a raid conducted by officers of the Kadawatha Police.

The suspect, said to be a resident of Tissamaharama, is reported to have escaped the prison on July 8. He had been  arrested on the June 20  following a warrant issued in connection with selling alcohol without the necessary permits.
