The National Water Supply and Drainage Board says that there is a dearth of drinking water in six districts of the country as a result of dry weather.
General Manager of NWSDB Ranjith Balasuriya stated that communities in Hambanthota, Pollonaruwa, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Puttalam and Vavuniya are suffering shortages in drinking water supply.
Local government authorities in the areas have initiated supply of drinking water from bowsers.
Balasuriya added that steps were taken upon requests made by district secretariats in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Water Board says that taking into consideration the prevailing dry weather conditions, areas receiving water from the Muruthawela Reservoir will be limited to a period of 10 hours per day.
Lalith De Zoysa, general manager for southern and eastern region at the Water Board, said that water supply to Weerakatiya and Walasmulla will thus be restricted.
