Education Minister says parents today venerate three examinations

Minister of Education, Bandula Gunawardene participated at an event held in Madampe on Wednesday.

[quote]Today our parents venerate three examinations. The Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, the Ordinary Level Exam and the Advanced Level Exam. The advanced level is similar to the Thripitaka, the Ordinary Level is similar to the Thunthara Bodhiya. [/quote]

The minister further stated:

“Our Ministry issued a circular which stated that if a students does not pass three subjects including Mathematics he or she cannot sit for advanced levels. We may think its just two or three students who are affected by this situation. However, every year nearly 200,000 students aged 16 are sent home because they font have Mathematics. These children when they turn 20 need a job to create a life, the need to get married and build a home. Today you cannot even become a labourer without having those minimum qualifications.”

The event was held to declare open the Mahindaodhaya Laboratory at the Madampe Senanayake National School.
