UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe refused to accept the letter of resignation on Tuesday of Kalutara District Parliamentarian Palitha Thewarapperuma.
Thewarapperuma says that although he intended to submit his letter of resignation to the Secretary General of Parliament, via the party leader, Wickremesinghe had not accepted his resignation.
Palitha Thewarapperuma, expressed the following views:
“I had not informed the leader. I did not ask anyone for permission either, but I brought the letter of resignation to be given to the Secretary General of Parliament via the party leader. I went for the parliamentary group meeting and submitted the letter to the leader but he did not accept it. “
He added: “He asked me to sit down and told me to get the approval of the people of the Kalutara district and then submit my resignation. He told me that he has no right to accept my resignation without the approval of the people of the district. I thought about his decision respectfully and then I left.”
