Dambulla protesters march against alleged hospital negligence

A group engaged in a protest opposite the Dambulla Hospital on Wednesday.

The group  as protesting against the death of a pregnant woman from the Paluthawa area in Sigiriya.

The victim died after being admitted to the Dambulla Hospital for childbirth.

On June 18, K. Thushari Sandamali was admitted to the Dambulla Base Hospital for childbirth. Following childbirth, Sandamali had suffered massive blood loss and was transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

According to relatives, she had been receiving treatment at the ICU of the hospital before passing away recently. The relatives charge that the victim died due to the negligence of hospital officials.

The final rites of Thushari Sandamali were conducted on Wednesday. However, prior to conducting the final rites her relatives took the body before the Dambulla Hospital via Kandalama.
